chamber music program
Chamber music is composed for a small group of instruments to be performed in intimate settings-traditionally, in a palace chamber or large room. The compositions are played without a conductor with one player to each part. A student’s skills developed while performing with larger symphonic groups, where typically parts are played by multiple musicians for volume, are amplified in chamber playing. Within a chamber ensemble each member is a section, which highlights a student’s musical abilities while strengthening playing ability through self-directed and team-guided learning.
Members of the Tulsa Youth Symphony program have the opportunity to audition for placement in a small ensemble of compatible players and be paired with a professional musician coach. Often TYS’s most dedicated aspiring musicians, the Chamber Music Program students rehearse weekly from November to February alongside our regular TYS rehearsals and prepare a work to showcase in a free community performance and final recital.
